    Hi Folks,

I have searched far and wide for an answer to this but I finally gave up and turned to the forum.

I recently bought a brand new MB pro retina display (high spec version) and created a VM with Windows 8 using Parallels. I mainly got Parallels for gaming. Now I know partition tools are not known for their awesome gaming handling abilities but I figured with the high specs I could configure the VM to handle any game. Unfortunately I stupidity installed Tomb Raider (2013) to receive a "Failed to initialize Direct 3D with your current settings" message. I then configured the VM to use 10 GB of Ram and 1GB of GPU power but still I received the same error. As an experiment in the game launch panel I set the graphic at a low setting but got the same error again. I know Parallels is only set up for Directx10 but this game should still run in it.

One thing I noticed was that in the PC info that the GPU in windows 8 was only a 256MB Window Display adapter which seems to ignore my 1GB GPU configuration that I had set for the VM.

I am kind of at a loss as to whats wrong? As technically speaking this game should run.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Peter

Make sure your VM has at least 2 CPUs assigned.
Also, try disabling DirectX 10, set VM Config > Hardware > Video > 3D acceleration to DirectX 9.

Why 2 CPUs? Sorry just curious.

Modern high-profile games require multi-core CPUs, and our experience shows that it does matter.
