All of my Mac desktop icons for Windows XP programs as well as the icons in the dock folder for Parallels Windows XP programs always start Parallels 8 in coherence mode even though I have the Windows XP virtual machine configured to start in a window. These Icons are a link to the Parallels Link.app program which then brings up Parallels. If I start Parallels Desktop.app from the Mac Applications folder, it always starts in a window. Is there a way to force the Parallels Link.app icons to always start in a window? Thanks....
Hi Cjohnson46, Please try to launch your Windows apps from Users/[your username]/Applications (Parallels) - will it start in Window mode? Also what about the Launchpad - does it start in Window or Coherence?
Windows apps launched from ...../Applicaions (Parallels) always start in coherence mode. None of them will start in window mode. Don't use Launchpad. Thanks.....
Just to double check - if you go to Virtual Machine > Configure > Options > Startup and Shutdown, the Startup View is set to Window, right? Please send the Problem report right after you try to start any app and it brings you over to Coherence. Submit it from Terminal (http://kb.parallels.com/en/9058) and post the ID here.
Problem report id is 21374444. Yes, Startup view is set to "window". All Mac desktop icons and dock folder icons that are linked to "Parallels Link.app" always start Parallels in coherence mode. If I manually start Parallels, it starts in window mode as expected, and Windows XP desktop icons or start menu icons start programs in windows mode as expected.
I know this thread was months ago, but cjohnson46, was there a solution to your problem? I am having the same issue running Parallels 7. Thanks.
Never received any resolution on this issue. As a result, I always start Parallels first, then when the XP desktop finally appears, I start the app I need. Either it's a bug or a feature, they just never replied to me. So much for support..... In the meantime, I have found Mac replacements for almost all the Windows apps I used, except for a few that I rarely use anymore, so I'll probably not pursue a resolution.
Thank cjohnson. I only use about 5 applications on WIndows as well. Depending on what I'm doing depends on the frequency I need them. Well, at least I know now I can start up right from the app in a window. I can always exit Coherence mode too, but it's more of an inconvenience thing than anything. Thanks for your help and response!
