Launch VM from Desktop icon?

I deleted the desktop icon put there during install, but would like it back.

I thought I could create an alias to the actual VM, and put it on the desktop, but when I do this and double click on the icon, I get a message that the VM is already registered.

No problem with the VM launching from the VM list after starting Parallels, just looking for the quickest way.

    Thanks

I thought this was a really simple question!

    Let me rephrase it:

Is it possible to have an icon on the desktop for each of my VMs (Win 7 and XP) such that I click on the icon and the VM starts up immediately?

    Thanks

It should work if you open your Parallels folder in your Documents folder and create aliases for your WMs and move them onto your Desktop.

Or, without creating aliases, drag and drop your VMs to the right side of the Dock.

Thanks for replying, but both these options just result in the message that the VM is already registered and can't reregistered twice (as in first post), with no option to proceed. Do they work for you?

I have a single VM and I open it in PD application, I will try the alias way this evening and inform you. Do you get same error when you double-click on the VM file in your Parallels folder?

I don't know what is happening, but the alias on the desktop is now working fine. Not aware of changing anything that could have affected this.

Just started happening again, out of the blue after ten days of opening directly. No associated change.

Yes same error when double clicking on the VM in documents folder

Mike, just right-click on VM in Documents folder, choose 'Create an alias', copy this newly created file to your desktop and that should work.

YanaYana, that is what I have been doing all along!

Anyway two days after my previous post it stopped doing it again, and has been OK since.

As before I can see no reason why it comes and goes like this.

I have the same problem. I have 2 Aliases on my Desktop: an old one for Win7 that works fine and a new one for Win8 that only opens an error message, saying: "A machine can only be registered once. You have registered that machine already".
Same happens, when I just double click the VM directly.
