I just installed Parallels 8 and import Win XP from PC via Parallels Transporter Agent, but the mouse and keyboard don't work on the Win XP login screen to proceed with upgrading the virtual machine configuration. Anyone can help with this?
    Thanks.

If Parallels Tools is not yet installed, you need to click in the window to activate the keyboard and mouse for the guest OS. Then to release the mouse and keyboard you need to hit the control and option keys together.

Thank you, EWTHeckman. The mouse works fine with Mac, but not after I click in Parallels window (Win XP login screen), then need to press Ctr+Alt to release the mouse and keyboard.

Can you please give more details how to activate the keyboard and mouse for XP?

When you click in the Parallels window, the mouse and keyboard should work just fine within the Windows environment. If it's not, then something else is wrong.

During that time, the mouse and keyboard won't work for the Mac side until you release them using Ctrl+Alt.

Once you install Parallels Tools in the guest OS, this modality goes away (i.e., they should just work) except when Windows is first starting up. (For example, the "an error occurred, how do you want to start up" screen.) During these times, the click/ctrl+alt trick is the way to go.

If you've installed Parallels Tools and/or you've clicked in the window but Windows isn't recognizing the mouse and keyboard, then something more involved is going on.

My Parallels 8 is trial version (downloaded yesterday), it seems I cannot install Parallels Tools (when I click "install Parallels tools...", it pops up "Click continue to connect the Parallels Tools installation CD to this virtual machine and start the installation", but I don't have the installation CD. Could it be problem here? Thanks.

Go ahead and click continue. Parallels tricks Windows into thinking a CD has been inserted to install Parallels Tools from. It should just work.

Unfortunately, I'm out of ideas. Hopefully someone else will be able to help.

After the trial version expired, I bought Parallels 8 for Mac, and reinstalled + imported Win XP from PC. Unfortunately the mouse and keyboard still don't work. Any idea to solve this problem? Thanks.
