ParallelsDesktop-8.0.18305.811918 hangs when I tried to update. It starts, then hangs indefinitely. I had to copy
the Install.mpkg and Parallels Desktop.app to a folder on the Desktop, then manually install the Install.mpkg
(osx installer) and the Parallels Desktop.app (copy to /Applications using terminal).

I had to do the same thing on both of my Macs. One is an Early 2011 Macbook Pro i7 17", the other is a 2007
Mac Pro. Both are running Snow Leopard 10.6.8.

Yes, I installed it manually using OS X installer on the install.mpkg. It is a hidden file when the .dmg is mounted.
I turned on hidden files in finder, created a new temporary folder on the desktop, named it 'PD" (name it whatever
you want), mounted the parallels dmg file, drug the parallels.app, install.mpkg and the install.app to the
'PD' desktop folder. I left the parallels dmg mounted.

dmg has to be mounted for the install to complete properly. After copying, Open the folder on the desktop,
double click on the install.mpkg and Install it. After install completes, close installer and open Parallels desktop.
A window should pop up indicating the install was successful. If successful, close dmg, drag temporary install folder
and its contents to the trash.

I also had to do this on the latest update (v8 update 2) as well. It must be some kind of permissions problem
causing the issue, but I haven't been able to narrow it down yet.

    Can't even get to install

I have tried to install Parallels on my MacBook Pro with the CD and with a link tech support gave me...nothing. Keeps going into what looks to be the DOS set up and says the install failed.

I have the icon on my desktop, everything seems to be going well with the install and then of course it's not. I have no clue what I might be doing wrong. Not a computer expert but never have had issues with installing software or apps etc. Tech said they will call me tonight and perhaps it is something easy I am over looking. Have tried to install this 3 times...twice through FireFox and once through Safari. Frustrated a little over here!

Not sure exactly what do you mean by "Install through Safari" . Did the tech support managed to solve it?

This is not Parallels Desktop issue - you obviously have PD up and running, you just forgot to install Windows in virtual machine. Parallels does not ship Windows in one box - you have to buy a separate WIndows licence (or download Linux) in order to create a virtual machine.

you need a regular Windows installation DVD - there is no such thing as Windows for Mac
