So I have a Core i7 MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion with 8gb and a 512ssd. I currently have the system setup with Windows 7x64 Enterprise in a Bootcamp partition and I have purchassed Parallels 8 for Mac. I originally had a different hard drive with this same Mountain Lion / Windows 7 Bootcamp setup and when I installed Parallels and told it to use my Bootcamp partition, I noticed that it got into the Windows OS and made some changes. I'm not sure what all was changed, but one thing was the startup animation was gone, Mac software was installed or at least available in the start menu, etc. What I am looking for is to simply use my Windows 7 Bootcamp partition in Parallels WITHOUT any changes being made to the Windows side of things at all. I have done some research and understand that the Parallels tools need to be installed in order for devices to work and such in the virtualized environment; however I want to make sure that other than the bare necessities, nothing else is being done. Can someone give me a quick breakdown on the settings that I will need to change from the defaults in order to achieve this? I would greatly appreciate it. From what it looks like, I should uncheck "optimize windows for speed" as this employs the stripped down startup screen and "other things" which I would like to actually know what it's doing as I have no idea what other things actually means. Any help here would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your help ahead of time.
this situation actually being caused by some misconfiguration - you are right, all Parallels is doing is installing Parallels Tools inside: they include drivers, like video driver, network driver, mouse, keyboard drivers and similar. they have to be installed to operate In windows just like you do in Mac.
What he wants is very simple! WA2FAST, what you want is this: Go into the Configure>Options>Applications and turn all the 'share' mac applications and windows applications (I hate this Parallels feature too, never liked it, I always make sure to turn it off when creating a new VM). And turn off Shared Profile in Sharing, turn off everything in Coherence
Perfect, that's exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for your help with that, I truly appreciate it.
