I have a MacBook Pro with the retina display and I am running the latest version of Parallels 7. I used to have windows 7 professional (64 bit) running in bootcamp as well as parallels and that was working fine. Now, I have removed the BootCamp parallels file, and the Win 7 bootcamp partition from my computer. I now have Windows 8 Enterprise RTM 64 bit (from TechNet) running in boot camp. However, when I go into the parallels "create a new virtual machine", I do not see the option for "use windows from bootcamp". Is there any way I can get that option back? I want to be able to switch through bootcamp and virtual machine depending on how much power I need. I would hate having to use VMWare, but I may have to if I am unable to get this bootcamp option back.

    Same Same

I have the exact same problem - new MacBook Pro with Retina, a boot camp installation of Windows 8 Enterprise RTM and the latest Parallels Desktop downloaded yesterday. I am unable to see an option for a new Boot Camp based VM was per the Help file.

(I'm clearly no good at search) - Just to add my voice. Same configuration. Same windows version. Same problem.
(apologies, I also started a thread elsewhere).

If anyone has any pointers it'd be much appreciated.

    Hi everyone,
actually win8 isn't officially supported by BootCamp itself, so we cannot promise anything until Apple does.

Thanks for the swift reply Hanna,

Just to get an idea - is this something that's limited by whatever support Apple/Bootcamp formally chooses to provide for Windows 8 (One assumes around Oct or later when it's released) or is it something that, with a bit of fiddling, someone might be able to work out a solution to?

Helps me decide how much of a weather eye to keep on this 'issue' (though it's not really an issue per se - just something i'd like to be able to do).

Thanks for your time and patience,

    Ant

    Hi Ant,
well, I'm not so sure about details of this particular issue - we can start with Problem Report to investigate: http://kb.parallels.com/en/9058

    How about Parallels 8?

This is all good and well, but I have a pre-release version of Windows 8 Professional x64, and I cannot add Bootcamp to my Parallels 7 Desktop. I've heard that Windows 8 is fully supported by Parallels 8. Why can't Parallels 7 users take advantage of the same integration? I don't think we should have to pay a $40.00 upgrade fee in order to update our versions of Windows. That's ridiculous, if you ask me. I'm sure VMWare wouldn't be as ridiculous. I might just have to switch.

    Solution

I asked the support and here is the working solution:

    1. Open File -> New
    2. Choose "New installation from DVD or image file"
    3. Proceed with creating a virtual machine and please choose 'Continue without disk'
    4. Check "Customize settings before installation" and continue 5. In virtual machine Configuration window click Hardware tab -> Hard Disk1 and from the 'Source' list choose Boot Camp partition

For more details and a German Article about this look here: Link

I hope that will help all users, who have problems with this! :)

    Edit:
I would be very happy, if you could gave me a Feedback for the short Instruction above. Maybe rate the Blog-Post or post your Experience with this Solution. Thank you!

I got as far as choosing the partition in the customise settings but it says "it isn't available for this guest operating system" and goes no further. I've tried this several times and always the same result.
I'm using Windows 8 Pro which runs fine on bootcamp.
