I did the last PD7 update (attached screen shot) but Tools did not update automatically as it usually does. I tried to update them manually but it gives me the Error = 2. Below is also the screen shot of what it's telling me. How do I fix this?

Still nothing from Parallels on this? Am I the only one who this has ever happened to before?

well according to the error message file cannot be found to install tools. Start virtual machine, go to Configure-> Hardware -> CD/DVD -> connect ISO file for windows from ~/Library/Parallels/Tools/& In My Computer open the connected image file and run the installer. If it does not work - uninstall tols from the COntrol Panel first and try all over again.

These instructions are as clear as mud. I can't find half of the things you say to look for.

Sadly I give up on trying to get any support on this issue from Parallels so I just restored my backup copy of the hard drive that had the previous copy of Parallels and Lion before the update. I then upgraded to Mountain Lion and after I used it for a week to confirm everything was working as it was supposed to I went ahead and did the Parallels update. AGAIN it did the same thing and Tools will not install and it gives the same error. It's not the computer because it does the same on the iMac and on the Mac Air.

So I'm going to recover my previous backup with CCC and leave it all running Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and Parallels Desktop 7 for Mac / Build 7.0.15106 / Revision 786747 (AUG 3 2012) because that one works and I guess it will be my last update in Parallels for now.

Or... You could have made a little effort and follow the instructions given by asking what you didn't understand about them...

I made more than an effort. Not all of us are experts in this stuff and if you go see all of my posts I help others as much as I can when I figure something out without adding useless remarks.

Kind of like, if I don't have something helpful to add I just don't post so my count goes up and everybody can see how many posts I've made...

You totally missed the point with your little bitter comment, which was you could have asked what you didn't understand about the directions given, I can vouch that they are correct (except for the path to Parallels Tools ISO), and this would also help other users facing the same problem.

Users aren't experts, but the 'experts' don't know what the users don't know, how far they have to simplify something, what language to use.

Tools ISO is indeed in the different location now in PD8 - but if i'm not mistaken - they used to be in the User's Library in PD7.

Since I couldn't find what you said I ended up trying one last time and just did what you mentioned in the end. I uninstalled Tools from the control panel and then went to Virtual Machine and installed Tools. I took the gamble because I have my entire hard drive backed up with CCC just in case I hard to restore like I've had to do a few times already before. This time it worked.

    Thank you.
