There's odd behavior on the screen after installing Parallels Tools & turning on 3D acceleration.

In Ubuntu, the left icon bar flashes in & out every few seconds. The border segments into dashed lines if I hover my mouse over the icons. The top menu bar has a large "shadow" that covers up any window bar that comes next to it. If I maximize/full screen a window, the menu bar still covers the top part of the screen. Hovering over that bar should've shown the window size buttons (the 3 circle controls at the top left). The only way to get out is to stop the VM.

In Fedora, the whole screen flashes every few seconds. Sometimes everything would go dark. Other times the colors are shifted like a negative.

The same odd behavior happens both on VMs installed from ISOs & ones downloaded from Parallels. Turning off 3D acceleration stops the strange behavior, but now video feels slower & the OS turns off / downgrades video features. This didn't happen under Lion 10.7.

    My specs:

Laptop: MacBook Pro 15-inch, Late 2011
Mac OS: Mountain Lion 10.8 (12A269)
Processor: 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory: 16GB 1333MHz DDR3
Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 6770M / Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Resolution: 1680x1050 (hi-res, non-retina)
    Parallels: Build 7.0.15106 rev. 786747

    kdgone,

I have been seeing the exact same behaviour here with Ubuntu 12.04 and the flashing Unity bar etc. I installed Fedora 17 to test that and found the same issues with the display going all white and screen elements flashing, turning green etc. Today I purchased the Parallels Desktop for Mac version 8 upgrade, updated Parallels tools on my Ubuntu VM and the issue with Unity bar flashing is still present. For now like you have have disabled 3D acceleration. Were you able to find any other solution since posting your original msg?

Unfortunately, none whatsoever. =( I'm going to try the competition since there's a lack of communication between Parallels & linux users.

Guess I'm not upgrading if v8 doesn't even fix the video issue.
