Yesterday, my installation of Windows 7 suddenly lost its network connection. Mac connection is still functioning normally. I found an article with 5-6 different things to try, including reinstalling Parallels Tools, changing adapter settings, etc. When nothing worked, I went to Parallels paid support and purchased an incident. This was at 2:30 PM PST. By 4:30 PM, I still had not gotten a call back, so I called them. The automated attendant told me that my case had been closed. I got a human on the line and he told me that my case was resolved, but reopened it under a different number and proceeded to work from the same web page I mentioned earlier. I tried to explain that this had already been tried, but he had to see for himself. He then transferred me to a so-called senior support person who logged in via screen sharing SW and poked around for another 90 minutes, trying many of the same things. She asked if she could completely uninstall my McAfee antivirus, and I said no, just disable it, I don't know what I did with the license key. She then replied that she would have to research how to do that and would call me back in 24 hours. I told her that this would be 6:30 the next night, because that's how many hours had been wasted by this time. We agreed on her calling me between 2-4 PM PST, as I would be out of office until then. The next day, she called 5 minutes before I arrived - at 1:43 PM, 1:45 PM and 1:46 PM, the last message being, "we have tried to reach you and will consider this case closed unless you email us with an acceptable time to call." Nicely done, work-dodge-girl. I tried calling the corporate office for a resolution, and the woman on the line seemed to want to help, but despite her promises, I have heard nothing from anyone for 3 hours. Another day with no internet for any of the financial software I need to run under Windows. At this point, I am ready to give up and switch back to VMWare. It's not as slick as Parallels, but I never went through this sort of abysmal support nightmare. Parallels should reconsider their contract with their India support branch. Update: someone just called from the Bangalore branch and tells me that I will get another email asking for a time 5 hours or later to call me back. That would be 10:00 tonight or later. Brilliant. I just need to be at my desk at 9:45 tonight and everything will be just peachy! And I paid for this blood pressure spike!
Hi, thank you for feedback, we do appreciate it! To investigate the issue we need some technical information, so could you please reproduce it, send us Problem Report as described in http://kb.parallels.com/en/9058 and give me an ID? Thanks in advance, Hanna
I see that you have McAfee installed. Please try the next steps (reported by one of our users): "Re-boot windows into Safe Mode then Go to http://mvt.mcafee.com. Run Autofix and update the Def file" the detailed instruction can be obtained here: http://support.dell.com/support/top...s/document?c=us&cs=19&docid=576372&l=en&s=dhs
Please make sure that you are using Shared Networking. Then click Start -> Run and execute cmd.exe. Type in the appeared window command "ipconfig /all" (make sure that all output fits to the window). Then, without closing the window, click Parallels Destkop menu "Help"->"Report a Problem", send a problem report (it is not necessary to provide description) and post here the report ID. PS: most likely you will need to uninstall McAfee, but let's start with the step above. May be it is not a McAfee's fault.
Seems that you need to try to uninstall McAfee. After looking into the report I tend to think that it is responsible for the problem. If this doesn't help, I can suggest a remote session. Send me your email address via forum's private messages if McAfee uninstall doesn't help and you agree to make a session.
Same issue happened there. The Internet connection suddenly went down. I did not try to restart windows (damn, I am tech support guy, If I would restart Windows/Linux every time something likes this happen, I would be fired , so I tryied few common things - ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, disable end enable interface, but with no success (no IP recieved from PD8 DHCP server). Ok, so I changed the Emulated network card behaviour from Shared to Bridged, and it worked again. Nevertheless this issue is something which Parallels should look at.
So far we don't have any reports about problems with Shared Networking (besides the issues inside guest os - like antivirus or firewall at Mac). I'd appreciate if you could when the next time you'll meet the issue you do the same steps: Please make sure that you are using Shared Networking.
17731332 is my ticket number. No internet access __UPDATE___ Just did what what was suggested above. After booting into safe mode, internet access worked. I only needed to download and execute the first Mcafee tool. It ran, I then booted back to normal mode and I'm in biz. Thanks !
