How do I know when Windows is paused?

So I tried enabling the "pause windows when no applications are open" feature, but I haven't noticed any difference. I'm using coherence in crystal mode. Is the pausing of Windows transparent? It doesn't seem paused because I can still access the Windows start menu. How can I tell?

Nevermind. It looks like it takes a few moments for the pausing to occur. If I wait a minute and then try to open a Windows application, I get introduced to the parallels trial message, and and it takes a couple extra seconds for the application to open.
