About a week ago, my Parallels Desktop V 7 stopped launching. Trying to open the program, I get Parallels' spinny widget in the middle of the screen but nothing further. I cannot seem to find anything recent in the console messages and removing the Parallels' preferences makes no change. The "Contact Parallels Support" under the Help menu to activate my registration produces no results. After 1/2 an hour, I get no message back allowing me to contact support. Are there any ideas for correcting this problem? I'm in the process of downloading Version 7.0.15098.770637 and will try installing that in the random hope that this will solve my problem. Thanks in advance for any ideas. buckyjunior Mac OS 10.6.8, 6GB RAM, etc.
1. Download latest version labeled "Trial Version" 2. Run uninstall from .DMG 3. Run install from .DMG 4. Program 'hangs' at about 95% with one minute to go. Hours later.... 5. Force Quit Install program. 6. Reboot 7. Run Disk Utility checking permission and disk integrity 8. Run uninstall from .DMG including all program information (previous VM listing but not virtual disks) 9. Run install program from .DMG...successfully this time. 10. Reboot to finish installation process. 11. First run of program, reenter registration code which opened up browser asking for Parallels reregistration for services. 12. Program offers "wizard" to install preview of Windows 8, buy Windows 7, etc. Okay, what the heck. I'll try out the preview and keep it cloistered from my Mac. 13. Program encounters some fatal error and crashes, quitting. 14. Restart the program and look to enter the VMs that I had before. The ones I linked to and looked at seemed to working okay. As with every update, I'll need to update all the Parallel Tools stuff for each of my Linux VMs. Zboater, thanks... Uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have made my VMs available again—albeit it was a challenge to do so and remain calm about the process. It still does not give me any idea of what went wrong, what to avoid doing with Parallels, or how often I am going to need to go through this process again. After spending about six hours on this, I am not the most pleased camper on the block. It is not the most "user-pleasing" installation I have done on my Mac in a while. I can only imagine what it must be like for someone without 30 years of multiple-platform computer experience.
