    Hi there,

I am running window XP SP3 in parallels desktop 7 (build 7.0.15055, revision 740667 March 5 2012) on Mac OS X 10.7.3. Until this week, this has been an optimal set up besides the usual hassle of upgrading parallels and parallel tools ( I have never had this go smoothly).

However, I am now having a frustrating problem where when I am at work on my corporate network I can connect to the internet in windows, but when I am at home I have lost the ability to connect to the internet through windows. This is really frustrating as I need the internet on the windows side at home to connect via VPN to complete my work. As I mentioned, this problem has only started recently. It did follow a switch of domains on my corporate network (I don't really understand the repercussions of this switch) however I would expect that to effect my ability to connect at work, not home?

Anyone know where I should start to resolve this issue?

    R

    Hi Robin,

did you (or your company's IT guys) change any network related settings in your host OS? Some special company networks need certain settings on the client machines like static IP adresses or DNS entries.

This can couse the inability to connect to the internet through other (e.g. home) networks than the company's (mostly meaning that also the host can't access internet, but there are scenarios where the host can, a VM can't).

If the host network settings are untouched, the next step I'd go would be removing the Parallels application (using the DMG that originally installed the app - the DMG also contains an uninstaller) and reinstalling Parallels from the scratch, and after that I'd completely remove the Parallels tools inside the VM using Windows' 'system settings/software' panel, restarting the vm and let Parallels do a clean install of the tools as well.

Another trace you could follow: In rare cases the Parallels virtual network adapter just disappears (VM configuration menu/hardware) or loses its settings (in most cases shared network should work out of the box).
