    Hello,
I am running Parallels 6 on Lion, with Windows 7 installed as my virtual machine. I am in the process of installing a new SSD hard drive that has a smaller capacity than my current HD. I'd like to be able to run W7 (as well as OS 10.7) off the new drive, but will need to make the partition smaller than its current 70GB size. The new drive is 128GB.

I have not yet installed the new drive, so am working off my current configuration. I'd like to be able to use migration assistant to carry over the operating and system files from the old drive to the new SSD drive.

How can I get my Windows 7.pvm size down to a more reasonable 25-30GB? I've tried running the configuration tool in Parallels desktop, but the smallest I can get the file to is 53.3GB. I've tried running the chkdsk in W7 and then running the configuration tool, but that hasn't worked.

My Windows 7.pvm file is 59.2 GB. When I open the package, it shows a "Windows XP New-o.hdd" file as 59.0 GB.
This must have been the old XP file that I recently upgraded to W7.

I am a bit confused and hoping someone might have some ideas for me.

    Thanks very much,
    Austin

    Hi R-
I can't remember exactly how I resolved that issue. It was a while ago. I am not sure if I ever really got it figured out sufficiently. In the end, I decided to return my 128GB drive and go with a 256GB that would allow me to migrate everything from my old HD over to the new SSD. I've had this setup ever since and it works VERY very well. It was a little more money, but meant that I didn't have to be storing files on two separate drives. I've been totally happy with the decision to spend a little extra, in exchange for a reduction of hassles.
