I run Windows 7 under Parallels 7 on Mac OSX Lion, and I did the Parallels Desktop build 7.0.15055 upgrade a couple days ago. I realized this evening when my for Time Machine backup failed due to a full backup drive that when I performed the upgrade the "Do not back up virtual machine" option got cleared. In just the couple days since the upgrade my backup drive has been filled (overwriting a couple months of backups in the process) because the VM had been getting backup up every hour. Wasn't too happy to see that the option had been changed from the state I'd had it set at when I upgraded. Additionally, I now cannot change the option state via the Parallels configuration dialog (Options/Backup)...it appears I can, but when I shut down the configuration dialog after changing the checkbox, then re-open, it stays in the same old state. The only way I can change it is by going into the Time Machine Preferences and manually adding or removing Windows.pvm from the Time Machine exclusions list, which then gets reflected in the Parallels Backup options virtual machine backup setting. This workaround works fine, but I wanted to give others a heads up in case their selection of the option got changed during their upgrade (you might want to check it). Has anybody experienced this and is there a solution to get the Parallels configuration option back to working as normal? Thanks!
Thanks, YanaYana, but while the setting won't stick either way through the Parallels dialog box (it just maintains its state, whether selected or not) the workaround via the Time Machine file exclusion settings works fine. I actually desire to NOT have the VM backed up, so the referenced KB article is n/a. Thanks again.
please read KB again and carefully. there are 2 solutions to opposite problems - please pay attention to the end of KB
