I'm trying to upgrade to Inventor 2012. Any suggestions in what Windows OS would be the best? I have XP SP3 Professional now, but can upgrade to whatever that works best. My Mac OS 10.6.8, could go to Lion also. My processor is Intel Core i5 2500S, 2.7 GHz Is there anybody running Inventor 2012 now? I've ran Inventor 2008 with Parallels Desktop for over 3 years now, beautiful, no problems at all (once I got it going). It's time to upgrade.
A strange question? It's not like you have many options besides staying in XP or moving to Windows 7. So, yeah, Windows 7 (64 bit).
Autodesk seems to recommend Vista. I have not heard any good of that OS, but they are not too clear about it. Here are their specs given to run Inventor with PD Mac Virtualization on Parallels Desktop Autodesk Inventor Professional can be used on the Mac via Parallels Desktop for Mac without having to boot directly into the Windows OS, so it is easy to switch between platforms. The system must meet the following requirements: · Mac OS X 10.6.x · Parallels Desktop 5.0 (5.0.9344 or higher) · Intel based Mac (64-bit Windows Vista requires an Intel Core 2 duo or Xeon processor) · Minimum 4 GB RAM (6 GB system memory for 32-bit Windows OS, 8 GB or more for 64-bit Windows OS recommended) · Minimum 40 GB available disk space (100 GB recommended)
They DON'T recommend Vista. In fact they don't recommend any version, they are just saying that if you install Vista 64 bit you need a Intel Core 2 duo or Xeon processor as minimum. In fact they don't recommend any specific Windows version. But trust me, Windows 7 is the way to go, not much doubt about it. think about it, Win 7 is the current MS flagship, Inventor 2012 as to be able to work with it.
