Hi all, I just got my first mac (air 2011) and want to run linux on it. I did a bit of reading and found a guide that showed how to disable dhcp and setup a vm with a static ip. however now that I have downloaded the parallels trial and I am trying to setup Centos, I do not see the screens during setup that will allow me this extra functionality. for example...

    http://download.parallels.com/desktop/v4/docs/en/Parallels_Desktop_Users_Guide/22245.htm

I do not see this screen.

I am sure I am missing something simple here. just to be clear, what I need from parallels is the following...

    1) the ability to setup a linux machine with static networking. I want to use one machine as a template to keep updated which I can then use to build other machine. I figure in the real world of servers I would have a static ip on linux so that is how I want this machine setup.

    2) the ability to quickly clone the machine so I would setup a little network with no fear of destroying the other machine (could just setup again from the master machine. I would not want to have to do more then to change the hostname and give a different ipaddress on the cloned machine.

    3) the ability for the cloned machines to be able to talk to each other (be pingable) while still communicating with the outside world.

Looked like point 3 was not easy in virtual box so I moved on. point 2 seems a bit iffy in fusion (really I am going to pay for a product that have no built in cloning functionality when all other vmware products seem to have it?).

Thanks so basically, am I missing something in the setup, because I don't see access to customizing networking, and will I be able to easily clone machines, and have them be able to ping to the internet while still being able to ping each other?

    Thanks for listening, really appreciated.

Or as a start...is the 2 week trial a full version or are certain features restricted till you activate a full license?

You are looking at documentation for PDM 4 and you are using PDM 7. Use the appropriate documentation.

Thanks I have it working even got pings across the cloned machines after deleting 70-persistant-net-rules (whatever that is).
