Under desktop 5 everything was seamless. After upgrading to 7 not so much. I just updated to the present 15054 build of 7 and had a heck of a job getting through the Parallels tool install process. The 15054 update was installed, windows XP started, then it said "please wait-installing Parallels Tools" and then it hung at 15%. Some of this was due to Outpost Security anti virus software which required me to "allow" the parallels processes to make changes to my computer. Under desktop 5 the tools installation was seemless and this never happened. I repeated this process of restarting windows and allowing the changes Outpost Security brought to my attention that 7 wanted to make and each time Tools installation process would then progress a bit more until finally fter about 4 tries it installed 100%. Am I doing something wrong?

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. There have been a few posters I've seen complaining about slow XP update times for Parallels Tools. I have a similar issue, and while it "appears" that the process has hung it does eventually finish - I just have to be patient.

There have also been other posters who state that their XP VM doesn't exhibit this slowness, so I do agree that it is likely some form of conflict or contention. Like you I have AntiVirus software that attempts to load immediately upon startup (I use Avast), so it could be that that process and the automatic Parallels Tool update are conflicting.

I've not attempted to disable my other startup processes to try and find the issue, but rest assured you are not alone.
