First off, this is nothing to do with Parallels. I'm on a G4 Powerbook, and I noticed there are some folks in this forum who are quite knowledgeable about USB ports and the IOUSBFamily.kext. Let me explain: Two days ago, I plugged in my Color LaserJet 2600n to my left-hand USB port on my PBG4 17" 1.67 to print some pages and there was a slight (I mean it, it was minute) spark. Nothing printed. I tried a second time. Same kind of spark. Nothing printed. I've had the PB since May '05 and have had no sparks whatsoever. After that I noticed that no USB device works anymore on this PB. A LaCie external HD, a flash memory, PowerMate controller, digital camera. They all work on my other Powerbook. SystemProfiler lists the USB ports as being OK. Apple Hardware Test shows my Logic Board and the test Passes. But I still get this line in system.log (multiple times): Apr 7 12:11:46 AlBook kernel[0]: USBF: 409.379 USB Controller on bus 59 received and unrecoverable error interrupt. Attempting to recover (0,0,0) After I attempt to plug in my flash memory to either USB port, I get a kernel panic and must hard-reboot pressing the Power button for a few seconds. I've re-installed the MacOS X 10.4.9 Combo but it hasn't changed anything. I'm thinking of copying IOUSBFamily.kext from my other Powerbook running 10.4.9. Any tips, anyone? Does it look to anyone out there that I've actually burned my hardware? Or does it look like it could be software related (drivers etc?) Many thanks, and apologies for the lack of relevance to Parallels itself. I'm just getting desperate!
I have heard of this kind of hardware problem If you have one good port left try using a powered hub through that BTW this is an INTEL group so go on the web and ask G4 Powerbook usb port failure http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&q=G4+Powerbook++usb+port+failure&btnG=Google+Search http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys.mac.portables/topics?lnk=sg&hl=en good luck Hugh W
Thanks, Hugh. Like I said at the beginning, I realize I don't belong here. Only, some people seem to know a lot about the IOUSBFamily.kext in MacOS X, and I was hoping to get some tips from them. My query is processor-blind. On the other hand, it's got nothing to do with Parallels, so I'll be as quick as I can and get out of here
