If I have a retail copy of Vista Ultimate running on my PC, do I need to buy another copy of Vista to be able to run it in parallels / bootcamp on my MacBook.

you may be able to make a clone of your pc by using parallels transporter

but it may need reactivating on the new hardware

    my own efforts failed
but I had backed up my files onto USB hard disks so I did not bother to work it out

Is it so that a retail copy of Vista can be run on only one machine at the time?

    Yes. One copy per machine.

    Ouch... That sucks.

Microsoft gives 10% discount from another copy of vista but it's still 450€ for another Ultimate copy just for use with parallels. Argh.
