I installed the Build 3150 the Feb. 1 update and for the 1st time in 8 months my widget worked (sorta). It had another promblems however I'll deal with that later. Then I installed the Build 3188 the Feb.27 update and all hell broke loose. Now all I have is a windows xp boot window then the screen goes black and stays black. Please tell me how to get this to work again. Thank you
Sounds like you didn't uninstall the old beta 3150 parallels tools before upgrading. Start your VM and immediately hold F8 (fn+f8 on macbook/pro). This boots windows into safe mode. You should now have screen in 640x480. Do Control Panel / Add Remove Programs, and uninstall parallels tools. Reboot VM. Install 3188 Parallels tools. Everything should be back to normal.
We're seeing two possible scenarios in the field: Either auto-update runs and after manually upgrading Parallels, and launching the VM, the tools package installs automatically. Or, after upgrading Parallels and launching the VM the Windows "found new hardware wizard" appears and you follow through the sequence of prompts to find the correct drivers (unsuccessfully). Either situation may result in a corrupt video driver resulting in a completely black Windows interface. As VTMac suggests, starting the VM in safe mode is the proper course of action. Although just re-installing Parallels Tools (Action menu>Install Parallels Tools) instead of uninstalling then reinstalling takes a little less time and seems to have the same result. DS
Sounds good however new wrinkle How do I find out what my permanent actavation code is? I bought one in july or aug. Haven't found where I wrote it down. Got a new temp thinking that was the problem - now it's locked me out saying to buy a new. Did. Thanks again. B
