    Hi,

I seem to have gotten my Parallels installation into a very interesting state...

In the Booting --> Flags section of the Configuration Editor, I checked both "Start VM automatically when it is opened" and "Exit application on VM shutdown", and now I can't seem to deactivate the options, since when I try to edit the configuration, Parallels tells me that to edit the configuration I have to stop the VM -- and of course when I do that the application shuts down, and I'm unable to change the settings.

...so I'm in this seemingly endless loop with no way out. Yikes!

Has anyone else here dealt with this? Is there a special key (or key combination) I can hold down that will prevent the VM from autostarting, or to prevent the application from shutting down when the VM Stops??? Or is there a config file I can manually edit to make an adjustment in the settings?

Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

Thanks! That was exactly what I was looking for (and I don't mind hacking a config file with a text editor at all...)

    Thanks again for the help.

Thanks, got it. However, I've increased the ram to 512 for faster performance but instead get slower performance?! I also get the message that my virtual memory minimum is too low and Windows is increasing the size of my virtual memory paging file. What's that all about?

    Cheers,
    Tim

The RAM allocation is a balance between performance and capability. If you have a small amount of RAM and get great performance it means nothing of you can't open a spreadsheet. So if you up the RAM to support that spreadsheet you may find performance falls off. Find a balance. What works out to be optimum for you will likely be different than what works for someone else, but should be close. Just don't expect the setting for best performance to produce the best capability.

Thanks for the above. Great to know there's an explanation, although I don't fully grasp it. I always thought performance was all about speed and power, i.e. more RAM plus processor speed equal speed doing everything. I've recently installed a 1gig memory stick in my MacBook and find its performance (speed and capacity for doing big things) outstanding; that is with the exception of the VM, which appears to be on its own planet. Thanks again, and I welcome any further guidance. Cheers, Tim

    Auto Shut Down Problem

I'll second that!! Even hand-edited, it is still hit or miss! Please fix this. It is my only annoyance with an otherwise great application.

I've got the same problem. I've checked this setting and it appears to be correct already. However my machine still insists on automatically starting and quitting.
