Hi everyone, I am considering to purchase parallels desktop, as i have been waiting for 3d support for some time now and I don't want to wait any longer. As I have read in other posts, the update will most probably not be free, my question is how much will I have to pay for the update, if I decide to purchase Parallels today?

    Many thanks,

    Ramit

Why not try VMware Fusion? I think it has 3d support.

From what i've read here (not at all bias :p ) they do have direct3d or something but its very rushed and overly buggy.
However, by the sound of it parallels isnt going to have 3d anytime soon, but i only know wat ive read here.

Isn´t it so that it´s almost impossible to have 3D support on a VM when Mac OS wants control over the graphics card(or maybe Mac OS releases control of the graphics card when one is using fullscreen)?
So any solution to this must be some kind of hack, right?
If the point of running Parallels desktop is running 3D games, then obviosly Boot Camp must be a better solution.

    Update to newer version

I am aware of the fact that Fusion has 3d support, unfortunately right now DirectX9 is not supported though. I would rather prefer to buy Parallels now and update it later to a newer version that has 3d support, my question is will there be a free update for 3d support? if not how much will this update cost?

    thanks in advance,
    ramit

    update

as to what i've read from other posts, the update will most probably not be free and part of release candidate 3, are parallels updates in general available or will I have to repurchase the new version for $79, someone gotta now this, this would really make my decision to buy parallels a lot easier.

Our upgrade policy - all minor updates (to 2.x) will be for free. And major upgrades are for 60% of the full product price.

Where do you find the option to upgrade

I am very interested to hear about your policy on upgrades for Parallels as I have been unable to find anywhere I can upgrade my software on the website. At present I am looking at the complete price to upgrade a pdoruct I purchased just 3 months ago and I am not to impressed with that. To be honest if I hadn't fallen for an upgrade to a minor update I wouldn't bother but I am now stuck with renewing the activation code every 15 days and that has been going on since January.

I would really appreciate some assistance in upgrading this software at a reasonable price as so far I have had no reply from customer services.

    Regards, Colin Needham
