I have been using my Parallels Build 3186 on my XP Bootcamp partition for several days now. While running XP in Parallels I un-wittingly chose to run "Install Parallels Tools" from action menu. Shortly thereafter I received the Blue Screen of death. it says BAD_POOL_HEADER. I have attached jpg of Blue Screen. Now everytime I try to boot XP in Parallels I get the blue screen and then a reboot. I can boot into Safe mode, where I tried to un-install Parallels Tools, with no luck. I can boot directly into windows bootcamp partition, and while booted, I tried restoring my system to previous restore point, which I was able to do, but that did'nt help either. I have now been successful at un-installing Parallels Tools while in Safe Mode and Parallels Desktop. But I still get Blue Screen.

did you try an uninstall in Windows add / remove software?

if so just run Parallels >> Menu >> Actions >> Install Parallels tools

which also works as an uninstaller

I already tried in Safe Mode running parallels desktop with no luck. I'll try again while booted directly in to Bootcamp partition.

I tried to un-install directly in boot camp partition and it was'nt allow. I tried again to un-install Parallells Tools while booted in Safe Mode and Parallells desktop and this time it was allowed. Now Parallels Tools are not installed and I still get the Blue Screen of Death.

    Fixed Blue Screen of Death

I not sure if what I did was the right thing to do but this is it...

    1) Downloaded update to Parallels to 3188.
    2) I used the un-installer from 3188 download and uninstalled Parallels 8186.
    3) Threw the Parallels folder in user "Documents" in the trash.
    4) Installed 3188
    5) Ran Parallels and selected custom install.
    6) When asked what kind of VM to install I select Bootcamp.
    7) Started Parallels VM and Windows XP booted without a hitch.
    8) Didn't have all the cool features you get with Parallels Tools installed, so from the Parallels Action menu I selected Install Parallels Tools and very quickly got the Blue Screen of Death and an immediate reboot. Windows rebooted again with no problem. Thank Goodness!
    9) I rebooted Windows and held fn key + F8 to get the Windows Boot options so I could boot into Safe mode.
    10) After booting into Safe Mode again, I chose to Install Parallels Tools. This time I got through the entire install.
    11) Rebooted Windows in Normal mode. Everthing is fine. No BSOD and I have all the features of Parallels Tools.

I have been using Parallels for almost a year on my Mac Core2 duo for approximatly four months and have had no problems of any kind. I use it daily at my job since they are all PC people. I have in fact let it run for 4 days straight without shutting down with no issues.

It can't be that you do not understand how useless this information is for people who do not share your success. Or can it? Unless you can explain why this is your situation and not that for others, save it for your diary.
