Is it normal for Boot Camp to require Mac authentication on startup and shutdown? ("Parallels Desktop REQUIRES that you type your password.") I have a customer that has a LOOONG password so this is a tremendous inconvenience for her and would be a nuisance even with a short one. This VM also reports that it is initializing Parallels Tools at each boot.

    Thanks,
    Tom Q.

I was hoping that there were others using the Boot Camp partition that could confirm or deny that Authentication on startup AND shutdown of Parallels is necessary. The documentation for troubleshooting the Boot Camp volume installation is more or less non existent.

It ask for my password on Startup from Bootcamp parition - but none on shutdown.

I do not get asked for autentication on my Vista VM though (from a virtual hdd)

I posted about this before too... It's appears normal because Parallels needs to unmount the hard drive and then remount it.. so it asks for your system password each time.

That makes sense but begs for a setting in Pref's

The unmounting and mounting make sense but it certainly begs for some kind of setting in Preferences to automatically Authenticate each time (like automatic login for MacOS X).

This theory doesn't explain why some would only have to Authenticate on the way in though.

    Thanks for the replies.

Tom, I'm getting the same behavior with my MacBook Pro, with maybe a bit of a twist. Asks for authentication twice on startup, once on shutdown, and always does the parallel tools adjustment each time. It's an anoyance for sure.

I have a 2.33 MBP with 2G RAM (512 for the VM) and I am running......well, trying to run 3186 from my boot camp partition. It asks for password twice, on opening and closing the VM.

The most perplexing issue is when I log into Windows I get a Windoes File Protection eroor, demanding I insert my XP installation disc. (This recurs when I subsequently log in on the Boot Camp side). Then when I exit the VM, I am unable toopen the VM again until I reboot the Mac, otherwise I get a "Unable to open disk image boot camp!" error. I have reinstalled multiple times and it has just been a circuitous affair with same issues.

    I will appreciate some help.

    Hi everyone,

Add me to the list. On my MacBook, using a Boot Camp partition, the 3188 VM for XP pro asks me for my password twice every time I start, and 90% of the time once when I shut down. A small thing maybe, but highly annoying. I would love to find a way around this.
