I am using VISTA in Parallels and cannot get the Internet Explorer to access the internet. I can access the internaet using Safari in OS X with no problem, but when I try to use Internet Explorer I get the message: "Windows did not detect any networking hardware"..

I have selected Bridged Ethernet and en0 Ethernet Adapter as my settings. I have also tried shared networking with the same results. I am using a DSL modem connected to my home network. None of the other computers in my network have any problems accessing the internet.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Some of these may sound silly, but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Is your mac connected using twisted pair (that would be en0) or wireless (that would be en1)

What does an ipconfig /all from a cmd.exe window show?

    Can you ping your router?

Also have you rebooted since you installed the latest Parallels build?

    Regards,

    John

    John,

I am using a hardwired ethernet connection, so I guess twitsted pair.

I have rebooted since my last Parallels update.

This is my first experience with either Vista or a Mac running a virtual machine and I'm afraid I must admit that I do not know how to get to a command line to type in cmd.exe, etc. Similarly not sure how to Ping my router from this machine.

No, I cannot see any other machines or devices from the guest OS. I can install and run applications with no problem, but trying to access any devices or resources from outside the virtual machine seems to be beyond me.

Ok. Do you have Parallels tools installed inside Vista?

Can you see network adapter in vista's device manager? (You can open Device Manager by double-clicking on the System icon in Control Panel, choosing the Hardware tab, and clicking Device Manager).

    Ynot,

I cannot locate Parallels Tools when browsing my "C Drive" n Windows Explorer. I installed Parallels using the Typcial Install option. When I insert the CD that Parallels came on, I do not see any options for installing Parallels Tools. It seems to only give the optio to do a full insstall.

When looking at the Device Manage I do not see the network adapter.

Ok. You should install Parallels Tools inside VM. To install Parallels Tools make sure that you have VM with your Vista running and that you are logged into the system, then click the "VM" option on the Mac menu bar and select "Install Parallels Tools" option.

It should install all necessary drivers and after that you should have network inside VM.

    Ynot,

Thank you. that seems to have been what I was missing. After installing Parallels Tools, internet explorer is now working.

Thank you again for you help and patience.
