Previously I used Windows 98 under version 1970 without much problems(except from the usual program crashes that belong to the pc world). I re-installed windows 98 again to make it easier for windows to find the software updates that 3186 came with. I´ve already read about the faulty screen driver and expect an upgrade(soon?) will solve that problem. One just has to accept that it´s impossible to shut down the VM in a kind way. However, I´m having another problem running a certain SDK application only available for windows. This application uses Microsoft Java Virtual Machine and for some reason I get errors that a certain class is undefined and the application must stop. I´ve been asking in forums to get some advice in this matter, but no reply has been given yet. Having a past as a programmer, I find it hard to believe that Parallels desktop 3186 is to blame. Just to be sure, I´ll forward this question to this forum as well. Has anybody noticed incompatibility issues with programs out there?
Is this a situation where installing the latest version of Java might fix it? http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp Or does the software specifically require Microsoft's version of Java instead of Sun's?
The latest version of java from Sun has already been installed. Some say that it has to be Microsofts version, so I tried that also. For the moment the error message is "Unable to start the application--the class files could not be loaded. Unexpected error", but previosly the program complained over an undefined class and a bit more text, mostly in swedish.
I too am having lots of problems with my win98 now that I have upgraded to 3186. was not having any significant problems with previous version. I am hoping that it is the video driver and that it is fixed soon.... any update on this progress?
By "latest version" were you referring to Java Runtime Environment Version 5.0 Update 11 or Java SE Runtime Environment 6? I think the first one is likely to be the most compatible with Windows 98.
Problem solved I uninstalled 3186 and re-installed 1970 and all problems are solved now. Microsoft Java Virtual Machine is incompatible with build 3186 running Win 98. Just thought I should tell you.
