Dear all, I've been having this issue with all of the recent RC's as well as the current build (3186): Boot Camp partition (NTFS 15 GB), Win XP Pro: takes FOREVER to boot up. During startup, after the Windows XP screen with the little blue scrolling bar, the screen goes black and the hard drive starts thrashing like crazy along wit the spinning beach ball of death. Eventually, the beach ball goes away and I can move the mouse cursor, but OS X is unresponsive--can't change windows, can't scroll, can't really do anything. So I sit and WAIT for a long time until the blue Windows welcome screen comes up, the sound plays, and OS X becomes a little more responsive, but it's not until a while after my XP desktop loads until the hard drive starts going nuts. After that, everything runs fine (XP and OS X), but of course this long boot time is just killing me. Literally, it's quicker to just restart into Boot Camp, and this totally defeats one of the two reasons for having Parallels (the other being the whole, um, parallel running part). Other info: MacBook Pro 1.83 ghz 1st gen, 1 GB ram, 512 allocated to VM. Thanks--let me know if I should provide more info about my setup. Mark
Anyone successfully using Bootcamp Partition on 3186.0? It was my initial attempt to install PD 2.5 build 3186.0. I was waiting for RC 2 to become finalized as I had already successfully installed XPSP2 on Bootcamp 1.2 (separate harddrive, NTFS, Mac Pro) and was really looking forward to being able to use Bootcamp install as basis for virtual machine as touted. The never ending repeating screens went on for at least 10-15 minutes. I stopped the virtual machine despite warnings to the contrary. To make a long story short, I could not start recovery console to restore my Bootcamp XP and just now, after several hours have finished reloading XP on Bootcamp and all software. I've only 2-3 days left on my trial activation key and needless to say, I'm reluctant to use Bootcamp partition as basis for virtual machine, let alone actually purchase the product. This is an issue I know others have had as I've read about at this forum. I'd really be interested to know if anyone is actually successfully running parallels from Bootcamp.
Interesting...I was trying to search on the forums to see if people were experiencing a similar issue but couldn't find the threads you mentioned. Do you have links? If all else fails, can I convert my BootCamp to a image based VM? Has anyone had any success with that?
Try: http://forums.parallels.com/thread9443.html or search forum for: "Missing/Corrupt System after 3186" One of the post imples that this cycling of blue and black screens eventually end but resulted in a virtual machine so sluggish as to be "virtually" uselessFor all I know there may be others. Let me know if you find a solution.
