Given the number of threads listing '3186' and some questions, what's up? The fact that this release still had a build number rather than a version number looks a little dicey, even though it looks like an official release. My own installation of 1970 insists that it is "Currently up to date" and does not offer to download anything, again giving me pause. International users are having trouble with localization. There's a lot of questions below and we are the users really putting it through the paces.

How about it? Can you clarify this release?

Parallels has never had "a version number" in the sense you're thinking. Try the About command in Build 1970 (version 2.2). There's no mention anywhere that it's version 2.2.

Anyone heard from Parallels? Neither Tim nor Andrew have posted in nearly two weeks. No hints on what 3186 actually was, or what 3188 is? From all the posts, it still looks like a work in progress and not "final."

I will say 3186 is working very well for me (touch wood).

3186 was the first version of 2.5, a "gold" build. That means it is subject to warranty claims which any beta version is not. It is also presumed but not necessarily so, that any debug code has been shut down. Its fully qualified version it is 2.5.3186. Today there is 2.5.3188 available and I expect that will continue to change until a new beta is released at which time 2.5 will be frozen. 3188 is a bit more of a mystery as it is called neither beta nor RC, so one presumes it is "gold" and subject to warranty claims as well.

This full version info is easily found by using Windows to see the version of Parallels Tools, but this presumes you have a Windows VM and your Parallels Tools installed correctly. This may be true in 1970 as well.

For me, no word on the new release of 3188 is annoying. Frankly, I think it's poor business especially when some of your customers are asking for clarification.

I'd go so far as to say it is the least correctly process managed product I've ever paid for that was not also "share ware". Perhaps that is the result of being first to market and the urgent ambition that drives you to that goal.

I think it's safe to say that, without any official announcement from Parallels about the status of 3188 that it probably shouldn't be used. I may have missed it but I didn't see any announcement and when I browse the Parallels website I don't find a way to download 3188.

Am I missing the link on the Parallels site?

    http://www.parallels.com/en/download/desktop/

It says 3188 March 07, 2007 on Parallels' official download page.
