dburnham, I think a better way than disabling the pre-selection highlights (Edit > Select > Preferences) is to use the "pull-up" menu in the lower right-hand corner of the window to select something like "Annotation". With this set to "Annotation", you can spin/zoom/pan the assembly or part without the annoying blue pre-selection highlight that you mention. Then, when you actually want to select something, go back to the pull-up menu and select something else like "Smart". It's far from ideal, but it's the best way I've found.
Other than a general improvement in "3D acceleration", do you know exactly what feature we should be clamoring for? My understanding is that Pro/E utilizes OpenGL so my assumption is that we need Parallels to support OpenGL in order to fix this problem.
