    Hi,
I am wondering if someone either knows of this problem or ideally a solution. I have a few simple msi install files that under Win7 and today under WinXP SP3 simply will not install. Under Win7 I get the message "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 or x64 version of the program, and then contact the developer". I have admin rights, and I've tried disabling the antivirus etc during the install.

I thought it was specifically a Win7 problem and perhaps a corruption with the windows installer for Win7, so I created a new VM for WinXP SP3; completely clean with the required Net.frame 3.5 SP. However, when I click on the msi files the command prompt box appears and then disappears, and there is no install.

To check I went back to an old WinXP SP3 laptop, and this installed the files without a hitch. It feels like this is a specific VM Parallels issue?

    Can anyone please advise?
    Thanks,
    Ian
