I have managed to get this game running, however I am having horrible issues with artifacts. They occur around any character, and the game significantly slowly down when this happens. In open areas, I can see the speed significantly pick up. I am using the newest generation Macbook Pro 13.3", core i5, 4 GB of ram, intel 3000 graphics. I am running a Windows 7 virtual machine (I changed over from Windows XP, but even running Windows 7 feels unbearably slow) on 4 cores, 1024 MB of RAM, and 256 MB of video ram. I am running the latest version of Parallels, have performed all the latest updates for the game, and made sure my OSX is up to date. I have heard that others have been able to run this game fine without any problems. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to fix this annoying problem? Thanks!

give more ram to the vm, like 1.5 or 2 gb, that will take care of some of your speed issues.

I'd try giving your VM only 1 or 2 cores, upping the RAM to 1.5 GB and for sure give the video ram a bump to at least 512 MB.

    Good luck.

you're probably not looking for this answer, but because it hasn't been said yet..........

a small bootcamp partition for graphics-intense games like that would probably serve you well

That's actually the exact setup I had. Upgrading to Lion destroyed my bootcamp installation, trying to reinstall Windows on the same partition failed as I was unable to install the bootcamp drivers after Windows installation (they didn't install on their own). I tried to start from scratch by deleting the partition and creating a new one, however the bootcamp installer does not let me and says that there are files which it cannot move around and asks me to format my drive. I am NOT doing that. Speed is slightly better, artifacts are still there and cause a terrible slowdown. Any suggestions, or how to be able to partition? I tried running iDefrag but no luck, didn't try the full defrag as not sure how to burn it to a standalone CD

    Birch,

This issue is specific to Intel HD3000 on 10.7.1. Try this as workaround:
. Shut down your VM and open Virtual Machine Configuration
. Select Hardware tab, Boot Order section
. In Boot flags field type in "video.fast_vs_const_access=0" without quotes

Can you please explain what this option means? Is it to force always use Intel HD3000 graphics card or the opposite?

Are the any other boot options we can use for graphics/speed optimizations?

video.fast_vs_const_access=0 is a workaround for Intel shader compiler bug. It doesn't improve speed, it corrects rendering in some relatively narrow case.
Parallels Desktop, expectedly, enables all graphics optimizations by default. If you're having a particular performance issue, name your game/app, describe the issue, and post a problem report id (Help menu > Report a problem).
