Try moving your cursor on top of the Mac's menu before your launch Parallels. That way you won't lose your cursor. Then try to install the tools.

It is the cursor inside the Windows which is stuck. when trying to install the tools I am not able to click on continue. I can still move the mac cursor everywhere. Thank you for your help!

Well if you just hit return the continue button will be activated.

Then do control ESC to activate the start menu. Then just hit u and then r to restart your VM with the tools installed.

    That worked for me.

I am no longer able to try this because a message from Windows saying I have to reactivate the software within 3 day is obstructing so that I no longer access windows. Thank you nevertheless!
I shall be grateful for any solution!

Did you try to load in safe mode and ununstall Parallels Tools?

Erase everything Parallels from your HD except for that Parallels folder that's in your Home/Library folder. Download 3170 and try her again.

finally a thread that got noticed

I have had this happen regularly (more in 3170). the mouse is moving but the pointer locks.
i have found that if you move the mouse down and to left (running blind) and watch the start button, it will highlight, you can then click on start and then use arrows to select shut down.

I have report this via [email protected]

Thank you all! I reinstalled again with a new registration: no change: Windows still ask me to reactivate and the cursor is still stuck. There must be a solution. Please tell me!

Yes I tried and nothing changed. I suppose I have to erase the Parallels folder in library? and reinstall Windows also? It is terrible to have to travel with all your installation CD
    Thank you anyway!

First, it was working with the release and stopped working when you installed the beta. Beta software is often buggy. Installing Parallels betas often requires installing a new version of tools which will be incompatible with the previous release so the only way to go back is to uninstall the tools or restore a backup.

If you start over, with the release version, and once you get it working, back up your VM (use Finder), there's no need to travel with installation disks, and if you install something that causes it to stop working, you can restore the backup (after reverting the app if necessary).

My backups have saved me countless hours when things didn't go as expected. Any time you touch a machine, there's at least a mall risk something will go wrong. If you don't have backups, eventually you will get bitten. It may take a while, but it will happen.

Thank you to you all. I eventually reinstall everything afresh. Nevertheless it was quite a shock. I was desapointed about the non reaction of Parallels support.
