After struggling to get out of the BSOD at Vista boot, I am now considering this option. Is it possible, given that I downloaded Parallels? By the way, I'm able to boot Vista directly from BootCamp with no problem.
The knowledge base is your friend: http://kb.parallels.com/en/9087 After the complete removal, just install clean, and you're done. Maybe you'll need your registration key again. Your virtual machines will remain untouched.
How would I "install clean" if I've just wiped Parallels off of the machine? Will the dmg file remain if I do what the knowledgebase recommends? By the way, that article addressed "removal" of Parallels, not "reinstallation." So not sure how I'd expect to find it. But thanks for directing me there.
Sorry for the confusion A simple reinstall is done by just executing the Parallels setup routine you used to install Parallels on your machine and choosing 'remove', then restart your machine and executing the setup routine again. But note many traces are left in the library by the removed installation. The KB article I pointed to performs a total, complete removal of almost everything that originally was installed. Than a new install is a 'clean' one, it's not only a repair, it's new from ground up. If you're experiencing any problems with your current installation, go for a clean installation; leave as few traces as you can. Even if you wiped PD off your machine by the original DMG, give the steps in the KB a try as they possibly can wipe more than the uninstall routine can do. You may want to download another, new DMG from Parallels's servers instead of just using the previous version again.
