Hi, I'm running Parallels 3170 beta with a Boot Camp install of XP SP2. I've noticed that every time the Windows installation needs to reboot (after a security update for example), Parallels sucks down another huge chunk of memory. For example, on my 3GB MacBook Pro, after booting up my VM with 1GB of RAM allocated to it, I have a comfortable 1.4GB free on the Mac. After the VM has rebooted, my free RAM drops down to around 500MB. If I didn't have 3GB on the Mac to start off with, I'd be in serious page thrash mode... Otherwise, Parallels is very good about not chewing up more memory than it should. Shutting down the VM and then restarting it frees up the "stolen" memory. I've noticed this behaviour throughout the series of 2.5 betas. Anyone else notice this issue too? I couldn't find any reference to it in the forums, which is why I'm posting. I hope someone notices and fixes it for RC4...?
Available memory is the sum of free and inactive. If this sum goes down, there may be a problem. If free goes down but inactive goes up, OSX is working properly and you don't have a problem.
Well, there's a problem: - After initial boot up: 743 Free + 423 Inactive = 1166 Available - Reboot VM without login: 37 Free + 555 Inactive = 592 Available There's definitely something wrong here...
