I recently updated Parallels to the latest release, and also updated parallels tools in my Windows 7 VM. Now, when I try to backup my Mac, the backup fails on the Windows 7.PVM file. I tried simply duplicating the file (using Duplicate in Finder), and it fails. I get the following error: "The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "Windows 7 (Office 2010).pvm can't be read or written. (Error code -36)" I use SuperDuper for my backups, and the backup process fails when it comes to the Windows 7 PVM. Is there anything I can do to repair the VM? Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Sean -
Have you tried using the clone command in the parallels menu? I got the same error you did and the clone worked for me.
biggulz - thanks for the suggestion. I tried the clone method, and when I try to start the cloned VM, it goes into Windows Recovery mode.. is that supposed to happen?
I also just noticed that the size of the clone is approx 1/2 the size of the original - maybe the clone process got tripped up by whatever is causing my VM to not get copied / backed up??
I have tried the following: - duplicate VM file from Finder - run CHKDSK from the Windows VM - Repair Permissions in Disk Utility (Mac) - Repair Disk in Disk Utility (Mac) - clone VM (within Parallels) - booted from a different drive and tried using Duplicate from Finder menu I am stumped - does anyone have any suggestions on how to determine why my Win7 VM will not backup / copy?? The VM boots fine, and everything seems to work fine once booted up into the Win7 environment. Does anyone at parallels have any suggestions?? thanks! Sean -
