    * BUMP * - this seems to be a common problem that nobody seems to have a solution for it

    Recently while using Parallels my iMac locked up (i.e., spinning beach ball of death). I let it sit for about 20 minutes but still no luck. I rebooted my machine and everything seemed to be working. I didn't try parallels until tonight and of course it gives me an error message.

    ====================
    SCSI controller is not installed
    Network bootrom is installed.
    Trying to boot from Primary Master IDE drive ...

    A disk read error occurred
    Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart
    ====================

    Note: http://kb.parallels.com/en/4680 and fixing the drives permissions did not help

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Running: Parallels 5.0.9344.558741 (upgraded path starting at v3.0)
    Machine: iMac, 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2, 2GB RAM
    Base OS: 10.6.2
    Guest OS: Windows XP SP3
    Not configured for Bootcamp

    I've got the exact same read out on trying to run parallels desktop.
    I note that you got no reply.
    Did you put it down to an expensive diversion and pull the plug or did you get a workaround?
    Thank you.

    Never heard of alternatives

    Hi Cromdubh,

    I never heard back from anyone re: this error. Short answer is I ended up rebuilding my GuestOS environment. Real pain in the butt as it held all my financial data. The rebuilt environment worked fine until 10.6.8 upgrade (which deleted my GuestOS after some technical "challenges"). Time to build again.

    Sorry didn't have better news.

    Yes, I went down that road too, eventually, hours of XP updates!
    Became the owner rather than a guest. XP1.
    I used mine as a vehicle for a hobby.
    I'm surprised you went back to it for something more important.
    Great program, but by it's very nature, trying to pretend to be something that it's not, it must be prone to failure.
    I understand Applications can't be moved, but did you have any luck with backed-up data?
    Being the weekend, I assume you're still trying to sort your stuff!!

    Save key data on Mac Shares!

    For some reason I changed the default directories of my Windows apps to my local mac directories (I'm really glad I did). While a pain to reinstall all the apps at least I didn't lose too much data (one year of tax data but have all the stubs etc. so just needed to recreate). Given the nature of the conflicts I'll keep doing this with future "saves".

    Can simply not install parallels

    I ve purchased parallels desktop 6 here a few months ago and still unable to install it. I looked and asked everywhere for help but nothing. I guess people like me who do not know much about this technology wasted money and are screwed.

    More details about exactly what you've tried to do and exactly what problems you've had with the installation would be helpful. Perhaps you should create a new thread of your own instead of tacking onto this one.
