Hi all. I'm currently trialling P6 on Snow Leopard on a "hackintosh" (i7-2600k, 8GB RAM etc, dual boot Mac OS X, Win7(64)). In general, I'm very impressed.

I'm slowly migrating to Mac but for now need to continue some development work under Win7 - thus the trialling of P6. My plan is to work 99% of the time using Win7 under P6 BUT occasionally reboot if needed (for games or fixing occasional Hackintosh boot issues etc).

MS activation issues are currently putting me off a purchase. I've read KB 9703 (http://kb.parallels.com/en/9703) and my question is - how is the fix for this coming along? When is V7 due? Can somebody on the Parallels sales team guarantee this will not be an issue for me if I follow the KB 9703 advice? A money-back guarantee? Without this guarantee, I may as well revert to simply rebooting between windows / MacOS - which would be inconvenient to say the least :( The reason for moving away from MS is due to their licensing greed - so using 2 licenses per product is DEFINITELY not on the cards! I appreciate this is mostly an MS issue, but it makes P6 a non-starter for me if I persistently get activation problems. I've had to phone MS for both Office 2010 and Win7 re-activation this morning after using up my re-activation "points" over the past few days of installation / configuration

Incidentally, again directed at any pre-sales team there might be, I've searched this website for any specific pre-sales support contacts and there don't appear to be any. I had hoped an online chat might be possible... but I need a support code (paid for). On top of this, I tried to activate my website account 4 times with my hotmail address (triple checked for accuracy) and I never received an activation email. Switched to a googlemail account and it worked... None of this is particularly encouraging as a pre-sales experience!!

A final piece of feedback - the P6 icon is absolutely bloody awful!

    Thanks :)

    No luck

I've very carefully tried KB9703 and it doesn't work for me. I've also discovered that bridged networking doesn't work either (causing both host OS and guest OS to lose all connectivity and requiring a complete reboot).

All in all, a real shame because other than that I've found Parallels 6 to be great for what I want to do. Since I'm an MSDN subscriber, I do have spare Windows7 keys and so I *could* use a spare for the VM Windows but I really shouldn't have to do that :(

I guess the bottom line is that if you're a Hackintosh user you have to expect problems :(

I've got 7 days of trial left, so *maybe* a Parallels suport rep will help me resolve this in that time, otherwise I guess it's a no sale on this occasion.

I found a bug when using the trial.

I asked the same question you did, and got no response.

I decided to buy anyway, and after buying reporting the problem using the proper channels etc.

Several months later, after a lot of "try this random change that's completely unrelated to the problem" they came back and agreed it was a bug, but that they had no plans to fix it.

I definitely regret buying. Should have gone with vmware.

Thanks Joseph - your reply could well save me a lot of time! I've already wasted a lot trying to resolve it myself. Hopefully the thread will be useful to others in the same boat in the future too. Thanks again.
