I was using Parallels under one User Account called "Main Admin". I simply moved my "Windows XP.pvm" file (22GB big) to my new admin account called "New Admin".

Now, when I open Parallels Desktop on the "New Admin" account, it immediately asks me to "Create New Virtual Machine". So, I close that dialog box, and instead choose "File > Open...", and choose the "Windows XP.pvm" package that's now in my own "Documents > Parallels" folder.

A box VERY briefly flashes on the screen. I managed to see that it reads "Registering Windows XP", but it disappears almost immediately, and then nothing happens.

I've tried to double-click on the "Windows XP.pvm" file, but the same thing happens.

Please advise and thanks in advance.

    Just posted similar

Funny that this just showed up after I posted about copying a VM between a desktop and laptop I use when I travel.
Couldn't find anything on a search so I figured I was the only one.
Does anyone else know how to stop this issue?

interesting solution if you can call it that

Just off the phone with Parallels support.
Even though in preferences you can specify a different default folder, Parallels 6 insists on having the PVM files inside user/documents/parallels/Win*.pvm.
Once I moved the file there, all I got was the "did you copy this file?" dialog, clicked "yes" and all was well.
Would be nice if the program worked as advertised.
