I must say that I'm pretty dissapointed with the lack of instruction parallels provides for creating a network connection. I'm running vista business through parallels with no internet after working on it and reading every thread / instruction possible for the past 9 hours. Good times for sure. About to give up and wait for apple to provide me with some reason to keep vista because this just isn't worth it. Sorry, I've never been this frustarted with something computer related in 15 years.
thanks I appreciate the reply but I don't own XP. I went out and bought business after finding out that the simple home editon wouldn't cut it and I think that's part of my frustration. I laid down 2hundred bills after reading on the parallels site that it supported Vista and so far it's been nothing but pure headache and reaseach trying to find answers/solutions. I'm usually pretty savvy at this stuff and don't give up but this has me going nuts I must admit. Thanks for you time though and if you have any ideas please let me know.
What is your VM configuration? What are your symptoms? What diagnostics have you run? Can your VM ping itself by IP? It's host? It's own localhost interface? Can your host ping your VM by IP?
The main issue (I think) is an error that I "don't have a network adapter installed and configured". I get this after "diagnosing connection problems". I have tried shared /bridged/host-only and made sure ethernet adpater(en2 and 3) are selected in my sharing prefs. I'm sorry that I can't answer about the ping, etc. I guess i'm not that savvy after all. I was just hoping that this might work after a bit of tinkering. Thanks though. Any help is apprecaited if I've offered up anything that warrants commenting. thanks.
I went through a basic diagnostic earlier today in this thread - might be worth trying: http://forum.parallels.com/thread8755.html I think Val meant RC2, build 3150 of Parallels which is available by following the link on the Parallels home page. It's also available as a link at the top of this page, now that I think of it. Which version of Parallels are you running?
and thanks for the link. I glanced at it and am just not sure I have the energy for a bunch of stuff I dfon't understand. I was hoping for a more intuitive answer for running vista I guess. This si just too much trouble.
With RC2 (build 3150), Shared Networking and XP, I've had no problems with connectivity. I understand that others have also succeeded using RC2 (build 3150), Shared Networking and Vista.
Yes, I'm sure they have, otherwise the company wouldn't advertise that Vista works with Parallels I'm sure. I just wish that there was a bit more insruction I guess as it does seem by this board that quite a few folks are having issues with this. Thanks though drval.
I'm telling you that this problem is due more by Apple than Parallels. If you don't believe me then goto Apple.com and go in their networking, Internet for Intel iMacs forum. A LOT of people are very angry in there. Unfortunately I'm one of them!
