I've been trying to install Visual Studio Ultimate on Win7 running under Parallels on my MacBook Pro. The preliminary files installed OK (like the .Net 4 Framework) but setup fails at the point where the VS2010 install itself begins. I'm installing from an .iso file mounted as a virtual DVD. I've done this before without issue with other programs, including Visual Studio 2008.

I don't have the specific error messages with me. I'm just wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue. (I tried installing the premium version of VS2010, too, with the same result.)

    Thanks.

Hey, I know this isn't of much help, but it worked for me just fine. Mind you, I started with a fresh Windows 7 install and the first app I installed was VS 2010 Premium downloaded from MSDN, so I would suggest that the problem might be something Windowsy rather than Parallel's fault.

    Thanks Richard

I hate to think of doing a clean install of Win 7. Yuk.

Your success gave me something to think about. I have VS 2008 installed, too. I'll try uninstalling that first and then retry 2010. If that doesn't work, I may have to bite the bullet re: Win 7.

I think I found the problem

A search of the Interweb shows that others have had a similar problem. I think the issue was my mounting the .iso file and trying to install from it. I've only done this a million times before, but trying to install VS2010 Ultimate from an .iso file on Win7 under Parallels on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard didn't work.

I burned the .iso to a DVD and the install worked the first time. Unfortunately, I uninstalled VS2008 before I tried the DVD install, but I can always reinstall it.

Maybe this'll help someone down the road. My original install of VS2008 was off the .iso file,so go figger.

I had a same problem, but didn't had any empty DVD. So tried with a Daemon tool to mount the iso file, and it worked like a charm. :)

If you already have Deamon tools installed, it would be much less convenient & faster way.
