Since I installed Parallels 6 with Windows 7, it took forever to open up any application in Windows after leaving it open in the background. It would just hang there for minutes at a time. The only thing I could do was to start Parallels from scratch each time I wanted to open up Windows, which is annoying when working on a long-term project. In the last week I tried a variety of ways to try to speed things up and a few changes made a real difference. First was to go Configure - Options - Applications and tick off "Pause Windows when no application is open". This makes Parallels jump right to life after being in the background even for days, and it doesn't use up space or resources in this pause mode. The other trick I discovered was to start a program in Windows FROM Windows; I used to open the programs from the Mac dock and it was slow. With these two changes, my virtual machine is running beautifully, and my Mac is way faster as well. Opening up a program each time after a pause is now so fast, I don't miss leaving the program open.

Thought someone might be interested to know...
