    Bother!

Probably I missed something or have a setting wrong, but when I run a parallels 6 installation of Windows 7 on OSX 10.6.2, the Windows 7 installation has access to the DVD - but OSX is locked out. Thus, I can only use the DVD player on my mac when I suspend the Windows installation and turn off the parallels window.

On the DVD, this even happens when I uncheck "connect."

    Any hints here?

Did you ever resolve this? I have the same issue.

    To a degree, yes:

What I found out is that I get much worse stuttering if the file in question is on a hard drive that Parallels and OSX share. Apparently, both OSs are accessing at the same time and getting in each other's way.

If I moved the file to the virtual C drive, the stuttering got much better. Or, if I played it from my Fat32 data partition, it was also better.

Actually, the problem I was referring to was the one you wrote which appears above my reply, regarding the fact that Parallels takes over the DVD drive and that drive can't be accessed from the Mac side without closing Parallels.

Have you gone to Devices > DVD/CD > Disconnect? Should stop Parallels from using the disc drive so Mac can do it.....

That did the trick, thanks. I'm new to the Mac and to Parallels and had not yet discovered that feature. Thanks for the help!
