Been a recent convert to Parallels from VMWare, seems to be a great product, love the performance difference from VMware when it's working, but I'm having a strange issue.

    Mac Specs:
    Early 2010 Macbook Pro, 2.8GHz Core2 Duo, 8GB Ram, 2 hard drives (with Superdrive bay kit), 1 500GB and 1 750GB (boot), both 7200RPM

Parallels 6 build 11994 (upgraded yesterday)

    VM Specs:
Windows 7 Pro, 64-bit, 180 GB vm, running on same drive as OSX (10.6.6)
This VM is very clean, created about a month ago, and has Visual Studio 2010, Office 2010 and not much else on it.
4GB Ram allocated to VM, 4 to Mac

Before the upgrade, I would have to reboot the win7 VM several times to get it to come up in what I call "normal speed" mode, where the performance is great. Once it was up and working, suspending and everything would work great, and I avoided rebooting it except for system updates. When coming up "cold", about 60-70% of the time, it will boot EXTREMELY slowly, on the order of 20-30 minutes to get to the Win7 login screen. The prl_vm_app is running at 150-190% processor the whole time. Everything is extremely slow, including the bios screen at the beginning. The system is unusable. Rebooting 3-4 times would eventually result in a "good" boot, where the performance is great and all is well.

Now that I've upgraded to 11994, the VM always boots extremely slowly, I've tried about 10 times now, and changed the VM settings, (adjusted ram and checked/unchecked hypervisor, etc) and nothing has fixed the problem.

Is there anything further to check, or is this a "buy a support incident" kind of problem?

    Thanks for any help.

    bump?

Any input on this? Sounds like an issue that's happening to a lot of people. We mostly use * in our office, so I've temporarily switched back so I can at least use windows. Love the performance of Parallels when it works, but seems to be pretty unstable, the performance is _terrible_ about 80% of boots. Still having the same issues as the original post.

Refusing to pay for a support call. :|

Is there a download link to one of the older builds? Sounds like that might be worth a shot.

I wish I knew where to find a downgrade link as well. My entire system is becoming unusable after the upgrade, with prl_vm_app using 100%+ CPU all the time.

    Same problem

I have the same problem. May have to go back to good old VMWare Fusion, that, while slightly slower, has never let me down.

Looks like the comment in Configuration -> Hardware -> Boot order according to http://kb.parallels.com/en/9697 did the trick - although I'm already running the so-called bug fix release 11994.

Just thought I'd share with you guys.
