Hi, everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me because this can't be too difficult a fix and I can't find the answer anywhere! I did a forum search and came up empty.

I had to change the shortname on my MBP (OS X 10.6.6, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7...what else do you want to know? I just got it last October...pretty new and up to date).

After I did that all my Mac stuff worked fine but my Parallels Desktop won't open at all. Parallels can't find it because the Applications folder that housed my Windows installation happened to be inside the shortname folder. It just keeps wanting me to create a new virtual machine.

Question: How do I repoint Parallels to that folder? I don't think I can even uninstall Windows and reinstall it...because Parallels doesn't know it's there. So creating a new virtual machine isn't really the answer (I don't think) because then I'll have a whole much of room taken up by a useless installation.

    Am I making any sense?

    Hello,

    Open Parallels Desktop.
Close New Virtual Machine Assistant (pressing CMD+W or clicking Red cross)
Parallels Desktop menu on top is still active.
Choose File-> Open and proceed to your Virtual Machine pvm package.

    Hope it helps.

That kind of helped. I managed to find that file and it opened parallels...but my Windows applications have disappeared from that applications bar at the bottom of the Mac screen (I run in coherence mode). The only way to open any Windows application is to go into the folder on the drive that contains the applications and click on it from there. That folder used to appear on my icons at the bottom of my Mac.

I might try to actually uninstall everything now that I got Parallels to somewhat acknowledge that it exists. But if there was a way to fix it without an uninstall that would be awesome.

So, now that I'm back into Parallels, how do I get my Windows Application folder back? :)

Folder with application is located under: Finder -> (user name) -> Applications -> (VM name) applications

You could drag and drop this folder to your Dock (I suppose you have named it "bottom of my Mac")
