Hi. I just purchased Parallels for my mac online. The download was fine, but now the installation is looking for a Windows XP disc...is this something else I need to purchase?? If so, is there a special version I need to get? Also, which do I purchase – xp or vista? I don’t know anything about windows programs! I've left three emails for techsupport and have heard nothing back. Please help - I desperately need to get onto a pc program for work! Thanks. Penny
I suppose you purchased Parallels with the intention of using Windows programs on your Mac? If so then you will also need to have a copy of Windows. Parallels offers a virtual environment for Windows to run and you need to install Windows inside Parallels so that you can then install and run any Windows programs you need. I recommend using Windows XP. Do not use Windows Vista as it is a resource hog and runs much more slowly than XP on the same hardware.
Installation Problems Hi James. Thanks for the feedback. I am really ignorant when it comes to this ... so I simply buy a disk that contains Windows XP for Mac and install it on my mac. From there the program will work? Is there any special Windows XP I need for an intel-based i-mac? Thanks so much. Penny
just regular Windows XP.. not "for the mac" or any other *edition* just regular Windows XP you would buy for a regular PC.
Hi. Just regular Windows XP? Even for an intel imac? I tried installing my virtual pc 6.1 program on this system and it just quits every time I try to open it.
Use another XP install disk from anyone but use your license for XP from virtual PC 6.1, it works. I could not use the Virtual PC install disk to install windows.
K - I'll just make it easy and purchase xp sp2 to be safe. hopefully i won't have any further issues... thx.
