Hi there, I have a question regarding my particular situation: I need to run a Windows web browser to access a specific website and that's all I want to do in Windows (either XP or 7). Is Parallels a good app for this? I have played a little with VMWare Fusion using a (pre-existing) BootCamp partition and the performance is painful (a MacBook 2.16 Core 2 Duo). I was thinking about deleting the BootCamp partition and using Fusion to install a new Windows machine from scratch, but then I saw the benchmarks saying Parallels is faster. So, to try and sum up: I would like to have a Windows browser running concurrently with a Mac Desktop as quickly and painlessly as possible with a minimum of resource use. I am open to Fusion or Parallels and either XP or Windows 7 to do this. Does anyone else have a similar need who can help me out? Thanks, Peter
Dear Peter, If you don't mind me asking, but it seems rather a waste of Parallels and overkill to just run it for a browser use.. That said, Yes Parallels will do easily what you need, where you can switch between your MAc and Windows and vice versa with them both running at the same time. I have not personally tested Vmware so I cannot comment which is better.. Certainly from my point of view Parallels is very good and configurable for example you can easly alter the amount of RAM allocated to your Virtual disk as well as increase/decrerase the Virtual disk size which I assume would suite your needs for whatever your resources require within the windows virtual disk. Maybe someone else who has used both Vmware and Parallels would like to comment further. Regards Kevin
Thanks Kevin! This is a mission critical site that only supports Windows browsers. I have tried to change the user agent on a Mac to no avail. The client is a real estate agent who would really like to stop using Windows... Anyways, today I will be playing some more with it and will find out myself. Thanks again for your reply! Cheers, Peter
