A couple of weeks ago I installed Parallels Desktop on my Mac Mini and created a VM for Windows 7. The Mac's desktop had a red coloured 'screen' icon which I used occasionally, though not all the time because I was running in coherence mode - so usually, I'd just select a Windows app and run it (which would start the VM automatically).

Anyway.... earlier today I selected one of the other viewing modes (Crystal or Full Screen or something). Now the VM icon has disappeared from my Mac's desktop and doesn't come back - not even if I go back to Coherence mode and not even if reboot.

Parallels still seems to be working fine but I'd like to know how to get my icon back, even though I don't use it very often.

In case anyone else encounters this, the icon can be replaced by setting up an alias to your Windows VM and dragging it to the desktop. In my case, the VM was located in /Users/Shared/Parallels
