I have recently installed Parallels Desktop 6, and have windows 7 running on it. When I try to install Parallels Tools, a little while into the install The progress bar starts moving backwards, and above it states "rolling back action". It then gives an error message reading "An error occurred while installing Parallels Tools" and forces a reboot on me. I then try again as it suggests and the same problem happens. I was fine with Parallels 5, but upgraded as speed was needed, to find it is now almost unusable without parallels tools. I have done the following to try and trouble shoot: - Uninstalled previous versions - Made sure I have no anti-virus - Copied off the disk and run as administrator. - Rebooted many times Please give me help!! Any other information, just ask! Nathan
Hello, Nathan! Did you update to builds 11990? (you could check it in Parallels Desktop -> About Parallels Desktop) If not - new builds is available to download at http://www.parallels.com/download/desktop/ Could you please send us Problem Report to give us more info about issue you got? (http://kb.parallels.com/en/9058) Please send report when your VM is in focus and you just have exited from unsuccessful Parallels Tools installation.
Problem Report - ID 7291670 I am downloading the new build now, but here is the Problem Report for the old build, so you can see what was going on. ID 7291670 is the reference. Thanks for the reply, and I will get back to you when I have updated.
More trouble. Right, I have managed to install Parallels Tools, however now am being asked for a username and password to access psf. I have entered my mac username and password, with no luck. What do I do?
Looks like Parallels Tools are not properly installed (previous tries could be a reason). Accessing Parallels Shared Folders doesn't require your user name or password. Could you please reinstall tools with uninstallation: 1. Launch VM 2. Open "Uninstall a program" control panel in Windows (Start->Control Panel->Programs) and remove Parallels Tools (select in a list and press Uninstall button above). 3. Reboot Windows guest OS. 4. Install Parallels Tools using "Install Parallels Tools" menu item in Virtual Machine menu. If it does not help - Send me another problem report at the moment you are asked for credentials while opening psf.
Same issue here Hello Nathan, I have had the same issue with Parallels Tools in Parallels 6 for the past 3 times they have upgraded requiring an update to Parallels Tools. I have gone through the support desk and the only thing that has given me the ability to update Parallels Tools is to stick in the Windows 7 installation disk and run update. This takes forever and is unacceptable in my mind but is the only way to get Parallels Tools to install. I suspect it is getting block from installing by one of the patches by Microsoft. If you wipe it back to a fresh clean copy of Windows 7 it will install Tools fine. Once you start applying the updates it kills Tools the next time you have to update it. It's crazy not to stay up to date with all the patches so I don't understand why they have not fixed this yet. For now I pray that they don't release anymore updates which require me to update Parallels Tools since I know if they do it means the long process of getting the Windows 7 installation disk, running upgrading Windows, Install Parallels Tools and then reload all the updates and patches from Microsoft.
Thanks! I seem to have got everything working, however this involved a hassle and alot of playing around. I feel it is disgraceful how I had to go through this hassle, and so did sth34201. I trusted Parallels, but this experience has not been good. Thanks for your help alev anyway.
