OK - I may be slow but am still on Parallels 4.0.3848 but it's worked well and I'm reluctant to change it.

I have a WinXP vm and had to move things around for backup purposes. For some reason, there are now TWO WinXP VMs in the list - one of them appears with a "no entry" sign and "This virtual machine is not available" message. There is only ONE .pvm file in my system (oops - except for one in my Trash folder which I had to move there when organizing the backup). When I try to Remove the useless vm from the list, I get " Unable to perform the action because the virtual machine is busy. The virtual machine is currently processing operations initialized by another user. Try again later." message.

When I try to empty the Trash folder (even with Ctrl-empty), I get the message that a file with a very long hexadecimal name and a .mem extension is in use by a process and cannot be deleted. Getting past this is not possible. Using Parallels Explorer is not helpful and the terminal app cannot find any .lock file (if they are used in P v4).

If I can get rid of the .pvm file in the Trash, I should be able to remove it from the vm list. Any advice is much appreciated.

Reboot your Mac so that none of the files are used. Then you can empty the trash them.

Thanks - I tried that and they were still locked. Subsequently, I used the Trashit! utility from MacUpdater. This cleared the files from the trash folder, but didn't clear the space and didn't let me remove the vm from the list - so now I can't even see the files.
